Since our founding in 1987, HOTT has been focused on providing housing and a helping hand to residents across Toronto. As the needs of our communities change over time, so do our strategic priorities. HOTT’s strategic plan for 2023-25 focuses on two key themes: Dignity and Resiliency. We are prioritizing these themes in our fundraising efforts and invite you to support either or both of our priorities which will help us continue providing housing and a helping hand for years to come.

Dignity Stream

HOTT’s Dignity Stream is focused on ensuring the dignity of our residents stays at the centre of all our work. Many small, community-based housing organizations pride themselves on having individualized, personal relationships with the residents they serve but funding formulas for support services are often based on top-down thinking rather than needs expressed by residents. HOTT believes serving individuals with dignity means adapting services to their needs. Simply put: meeting people where they are.

By donating to HOTT’s Dignity Stream you’ll support our top priorities for serving our residents with even greater dignity:

  • Supporting residents access additional, proactive training and education to support them with language access, job training, and long-term employment opportunities.

  • Securing additional funding for HOTT’s support team to provide even more dedicated care to every resident and to ensure residents’ daily needs are met. This includes services like crisis support, basic life-skills development, procurement of emergency food and household items, translation and literacy services, and much more.

  • Building the financial literacy capacity of our residents by providing them with the knowledge and skills to manage money, budget their finances, and know about the tools that are available to them (e.g. apply for provincial and federal Government Benefits and Tax Credits).

Resiliency Stream

HOTT’s Resiliency Streamis focused on supporting the resilience of our residents and our organization. As communities across Toronto respond to multiple crises affecting housing, from mental health to the environment, we are focused on putting resiliency at the centre of our work today to build a more sustainable future.

By donating to HOTT’s Resiliency Stream you’ll support our top resiliency priorities:

  • Building capacity for HOTT to better serve residents, for example by updating HOTT’s administrative software.

  • Building more fundraising capacity with tools like donor and customer relationship management software to support long-term fundraising goals and new, sustainable operating funding.
